Kite Flying Lake Michigan

May 3, 2010

Art by Margarete Dahlin

On the beach below my house I often see kites flying.
I was inspired by the colors and beauty of kites in the wind and I wrote this poem.
An artist read my poem on the internet and created the painting.
Here is the poem:

                                                            MY

Kites

For My Father

                                    All my tethered kites tremble

                                      cleave the wind with singing

                                       looping, spiraling, weaving

                                         gifts from my father:

                                       heart red, ocean blue

                                        goldfinch yellow

                                        crocus purple

                                           green of

                                           leaping

                                            goat:

                                                stripes

                                                     0f

                                                      Joseph’s

                                                               sp

                                                                 len

Such a clever verse…I love the imagery of the poem…made me think of the kites along our beaches.
